Lego Jurassic World’s Story Mode challenges you to complete levels with assigned characters. Although you’re free to switch between these heroes at will, they don’t possess the necessary abilities and equipment to find all of the game’s hidden collectibles. That’s what makes Free Play Mode so important. After beating a level in Story Mode, you can then replay it with all of the unlocked characters in Free Play Mode. Doing this lets you pick and choose heroes with the desired skills. Nick Van Owen, for example, comes with a pair of bolt cutters you’ll need to break through chains, revealing Minikits and other valuable items.

To enjoy Free Play Mode, look for kiosks within the hub areas and then access these to play previously completed stages.

Tip: Each of the four Jurassic Park movies have in-game hubs. Explore a bit to uncover new characters, dinosaurs, puzzles and collectibles.

Break lots of stuff

Don’t hesitate to break all sorts of objects in Lego Jurassic World. Not only will it satisfy your appetite for destruction, you’ll also pick up thousands of gold and silver studs. These tiny Lego bits are the game’s virtual currency, so the more you have, the more cool things you can buy. In fact, there are four types of studs with the following values: Silver (10 studs), Gold (100 studs), Blue (1,000 studs) and Purple (10,000).

Additionally, you may need to break all manner of things in order to build contraptions. However, only certain characters can put things together using bones. Dr. Alan Grant, for example, can Bone-Build.

Sometimes you won’t find collectibles per se, but instead pieces to create vine ropes, seesaws and boost pads to reach high areas.

Tip: Remember, some objects can only be broken by characters with unique abilities.

Interact with everything

While exploring, be on the lookout for glowing objects like bones, leaves, backpacks and rocks. Walk up to these items, pick them up and then follow the arrows to the exact spot where you can use them. If the object has blue footprints surrounding it, switch to a character with the Tracker ability. From there, follow the prints to locate something special.

Tip: Press switches, pull levers, push crates and activate computers. You never know what pressing buttons will do.

Open fire

There will be moments where you’ll need to shoot enemies to proceed through the game. On top of that, you must shoot different objects to advance the story or uncover secret items. Look for a bulls-eye near a target or movement in a tree.

Know your collectibles

Video game completionists will spend an untold number of hours searching for the huge amount of hidden objects in Lego Jurassic World. Of course, it helps to know what you’re hunting for.

Gold Bricks

There are a whopping 275 of these in the game, and finding them lets you return to hub areas to unlock dinosaur paddocks. Some of them require characters with those aforementioned unique abilities. Other times, you will receive Gold Bricks for beating a story level, collecting 10 Minikits in a stage, rescuing a worker in danger, healing a sick dino, taking pictures at specially marked spots or finishing a gate-to-gate race.

Also referred to as Bone Kits, these collectibles let you build dinosaur skeletons, viewable at the Jurassic World Innovation Center. You’ll find 10 Minikits per level (you will receive a gold brick each time you complete a set of 10), and there are 200 total in the game.

Amber Bricks

In the first Jurassic Park movie, scientists extract dinosaur DNA from dead mosquitos encased in amber. There are 20 of these amber bricks in Lego Jurassic World, and finding one not only unlocks a dinosaur type for that specific level, but you’ll also be able to play as this creature in Free Play Mode.

Red Bricks

Search for 20 of these bricks, spread across the game’s hub areas. Then use them to imbue characters with powerful and at times silly abilities.

Tip: There are 20 people in need of help in the game. For each person you save, you’ll receive a Gold Brick. You will also score a Gold Brick for helping sick dinosaurs. Simply locate the ingredients to heal these 10 prehistoric thunder lizards and collect the rewards.
