How Do I Sync My Contacts From Gmail To Iphone

In this video guide we have shown you how to enable iCloud and Gmail account to sync your iPhone contacts iCloud/Gmail and import contacts from iCloud/Gmail. I am successfully synchronizing my iPhone contacts with my GMail account. When adding a new contact in my GMail account, the new contact takes a few hours to sync to the device. This is cumbersome, because often I add a contact on GMail and wish to call that contact from my iPhone. If Automatically sync is turned off and you want to update your contacts, you can manually sync Google contacts with your device using Google’s Contacts app. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Contacts app. To sync, pull down on the contacts list.

Your Google contacts are added to your iCloud account. It will be synchronized with your iPhone and iPad if you’ve set up the iCloud with the same Apple ID. Signing Off So these were two ways you can sync contacts from Gmail to your iOS device. You can also sync your Google Calendar with your iPhone. Check out our particular guide on the same. A second way to sync your Gmail contact groups with your iPhone is to use a third party app called ContactsSync for Gmail. Search for it on apple store and download it Install the app and open it Select the iPhone 11 contact account you want to sync with Google (Select iPhone 11 address book).

Since long I had been using Android based smartphones and thus all my data has been getting stored in various Google services. All my phonebook contacts were also stored in Google Contacts. When I began to use iPhone, I still wanted all my phonebook to stay updated in Google Contacts. For this, I needed to sync my iPhone Contacts with Google Contacts. Syncing helps in downloading phone numbers from Google account into any of your new phone. You can buy any phone and you can download all your contacts into it.

Syncing Google Contacts with iPhone (or iPhone contacts with Google) is a process in which new contacts will be uploaded into your Google account and old contacts will be downloaded into your iPhone. Thus both your iPhone and Google Contacts will have all your contacts.

How to Sync iPhone with Google Contacts

Syncing iPhone is an easy process but often people find it confusing. Below we are giving the exact steps to sync iPhone contacts with Google:

  1. Open Settings in your iPhone
  2. Go to Contacts > Accounts
  3. Now go to Add Account > Google
  4. You will be asked to log into your Google account. If you’re using 2-step verification, you will receive a code on your mobile phone as usual. Sign into Google.
  5. Now your iOS (i.e. the operating system in your iPhone) will connect with Google and Google will seek your permission to allow iOS to access and manage your mail, contacts etc. Tap on Accept to allow.
  6. You will see what all items from your Gmail could be accessed on your iPhone. Make sure Contacts toggle is set to ON (i.e. it should be green)

Now your iPhone Contacts app will sync with your Gmail / Google Contacts. But syncing will happen only when you will open the Contacts app in your iPhone. So, after following the above mentioned steps, you should open the Contacts app in iPhone. When you will do so, you will notice that your mobile data transfer icon will begin to spin. This means that the iPhone is transferring data to and from Google Contacts. You should keep the Contacts app open as long as the spinner shows data transfer. This will ensure that all your contacts are synced.

Afterwards too, whenever you will open Contacts app, iPhone will check if there is a newly added contact in your iPhone. If there would be new contacts, syncing will again take place.

Existing iPhone Contacts are not Syncing with Google Account

Before setting up your iPhone to sync with Google account, if you already had Contacts in your iPhone, they may not get synced with Google. Only those contacts will be synced which will be added after sync is setup. To get around this problem you will have to export iPhone contacts and import them manually into Google account. We have published an article on exporting iPhone Contacts and import them into Google.

Your path to a focused and securely encrypted inbox.

For most who use email to communicate with others, contacts are automatically added. Once you begin chatting with someone, their contact information may be automatically added to your Gmail, making it easier to initiate another conversation later.

But most don’t know how to add a contact in Gmail, how to find contacts in Gmail, or how to edit contacts in Gmail. And there's a good reason for that: contacts no longer live in Gmail proper!

Here we’ll show you how to do all of the above as well as how to import contacts to Gmail, how to export Gmail contacts, and how to delete contacts from Gmail for good.

Where are contacts in Gmail

Years ago, Gmail had a dedicated ‘contacts’ section. At some point, Google migrated contacts to its own standalone service within the Google suite of apps and services.

There are a few ways to get to your contacts, though. The upside is you don’t really have to go through Gmail to edit, delete, or manage contact information now.

The two main ways to get to your Google Contacts is to visit while logged into your Google account, or click the familiar nine-dot menu present across Google websites and select “Contacts.”

Both steps lead you to, where all your contacts, lists, and management tools are located.

Contacts on your iPhone, iPad mail app

Much like Google, Apple also houses your contacts in a separate service. Though not an app, your iPhone and iPad both have a partition in the Settings app specifically for contacts. Here’s how to find them:

  1. Select the “Settings” app on your iPhone or iPad
  2. Scroll down until you see “Contacts”
  3. Select “Contacts,” and click on any contact to manage the information in that profile

How to add contacts to Gmail

Adding contacts to Gmail is as simple as adding them to your Google contacts. Google Contacts is linked across the apps you use with your Google account. Here’s how:

  1. Go to
  2. On the top left of the window, select “Create contact”
  3. Select “Create new contact”
  4. In the popup window, enter the information for your new contact
  5. Select “Save” at the bottom of the popup window

Many users aren’t excited by using Google Contacts, or managing contacts in their iPhone’s settings. While these methods are good for finding and editing info, they’re limited tools. A better app for managing contacts as well as email for you may be Canary.

Canary for Mac is a native app that provides full end to end encryption for email, and allows you to better filter, organize, and get through your email inbox with ease. Canary has the ability to manage read receipts, snooze emails, and view contact profiles.

The right side of the screen has a contact view, displaying all the information for that person, and an option to quickly ‘favorite’ them.

How to edit Gmail contacts

Editing contacts in Google Contacts is really simple. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Visit
  2. Select the contact you want to edit
  3. In the popup window that appears, click the pencil icon at the top right corner
  4. Edit the contact information
  5. Select “Save” at the bottom right corner of the window

Though Google contacts can sync to your main Apple contacts service, some want to avoid Google contacts altogether. Unibox may be what you’re looking for if you want to use Gmail but not Google contacts.

A native email app for Mac, Unibox groups emails and messages by sender, providing a holistic view of chats organized by sender. It also allows direct addition of contacts to your Mac’s contacts app, which syncs to your other iOS and iPadOS devices via iCloud.

All you have to do is right-click the icon on any contact in your inbox, select “Add to address book,” and Unibox will open your Mac contacts app with the information it knows about the person emailing you. Brilliant!

How to import contacts

Importing contacts to Google contacts is easy, too. First, be sure you’ve exported contacts from your other email service or contacts app as a CSV file. This is a filetype Google contacts is able to read.

From there, follow these steps:

  1. Visit
  2. From the left side of the window, select “Import”
  3. Select “Select file”
  4. Choose the CSV file saved to your Mac you wish to import
  5. Select “Import” at the bottom right corner of the popup window

That’s all it takes! The contacts in the CSV file you uploaded to Google contacts will show up in your list. Keep in mind while it’s typically immediate, it sometimes takes a while for contacts to show up, especially across devices.

How to export contacts

If you want to export your Google contacts for use elsewhere, it’s also very simple. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Visit
  2. On the left side of the screen, select “Export”
  3. Choose the list you want to export (Note: You can export a single “label” in Google contacts, or your whole contacts list. You won’t be able to select multiple “labels,” which are sub-lists of contacts. If there are multiple lists you want to export, you can create a new label for those contacts, add the label to those contacts, and export that label’s list.)
  4. Choose your “export as” option (Note: Google CSV and Outlook CSV are different, so choose carefully.)

  5. Select “Export” at the bottom right corner of the window

Your exported contacts will be saved as a CSV or vCard on your Mac.

How to delete Gmail contacts

There are two ways to delete Gmail contacts: individually, or by group. Here’s how to delete a single Google contact:

  1. Visit
  2. Find the contact you wish to delete
  3. On the right side of their row, click the three-dot menu
  4. Choose “delete”
  5. Confirm you want to delete the contact

If you want to delete multiple contacts, follow these steps:

  1. Visit
  2. Hover over the icon of the contact you wish to select for deletion
  3. When the checkbox appears instead of their image, select the box
  4. Follow steps two and three for all contacts you want to delete
  5. When you’ve selected all the contacts you’d like to delete, select the three-dot menu at the top of the window
  6. Select “delete”
  7. Confirm your choice
